Travel Day 4

Over our rooftop breakfast we talked about our options for today, a) a 50km ride is mapped out overnight, or) catch the train to Napoli and spend the day there.

We decided the ride could wait and bought three tickets for the train trip South. Part of deciding was the fact that although I'd seen the Mediterranean in the distance from the bus in 2018 I'd never actually got to see it up close and our route out of Rome and Italy is not going to take us out to the Mediterranean.
I can now say I've seen the Mediterranean up close!

We found a Cafe shared a couple of pizzas and I've now got a challenge to reproduce a true Italian Margherita at the bach out of the pizza oven - watch this space, you'll see when I've mastered it

Napoli it's quite a different city to Roma, none of the Roman ruins of Rome and from the Hop on Hop Off bus tour we took lots of magnificent coastal homes perched on the sides of the hills leading down to the waters edge.

The drivers and traffic are amazing, lots of motorbikes and scooters, tiny two seat cars that park at right angles like the motorbikes along with vans, busses, trucks and everything else in between. The motorbike riders and passengers seem to be totally relaxed as the ducked, dived and arrive their way through the traffic amid the honking of horns. We only saw one nearly get taken out as a car turned in front of him, he survived (well at least today he did).

Observations :
The first thing you notice stepping out of the arrivals hall at the airport and then forever therafter is the cigarette snoke! It is so noticeable when compared with Australasia.
The second is the standard of dress - business people still wear suits and are well dressed s are most others.
Thirdly again when compared with Australasia there is a noticeable lack of obesity.
While the smoking rates at home are just a fraction of that here and we may feel smug about that the opposite can be said about the obesity.
Note: There is no scientific basis other than casual observation on my part in the above observations.
