Day 17 - Altenmarkt to Salzburg - Ride total 1,277 k, 10,417 m

One of the best downhills ever. A steady - 2 to - 3% gradient with no uphill to speakk of meant we cruised down the road at between 30 - 45 Kph without having to use our brakes very often. This meant we knocked out the first half of the ride in very good time and as there were no significant hills due the rest of the ride we were at the 55 km mark by 11:30, just in time for an early lunch before we rode on to Sound of Music Castle, which still looks magnificent 60 years on.

Funny thing the young Austrian woman at last night's hotel had no idea about the Sound of Music film. But then when you think about it as it was a block buster 60 years ago and nit part of a triology or the like, perhaps it's a but much to expect today's young people to instantly recall our even have knowledge of it.

We must have encountered 100 or more touring/bikepacking cyclists on the trail heading to the way we'd just come from. We're now on Eurovelo 7 cycle trail. Eurovelo is a name given to the network of cycle routes that traverse Europe every which way and it's a good place to start if you think you would try a little (or a lot) of cycling country country.

With arriving here at the hotel by 1:30 p. m. and being able to check in means, we're all showered and blogs done in plenty of time. Which means we'll probably head out soon to do a bit of an explore and find a Galato store.
