Day 22 - Reutlingen to Stuttgart - ride total 1,659 m, 12,933 m
We thought we had found a bakery for our breakfast before we left the hotel so of we went only to find it not open. Not to worry as we then poured for plan 'B' which was to get the bikes from the hotel around the corner where they were parked safely overnight, load up and head out of town with a stop at a suitable bakery. We had gone about 1.5 km and came across a good bakery (my requirement) and apparently good coffee (the boys' requirement), so we stopped there for breakfast.
We only had about 50 km to ride today and as it was 7:30 when we were leaving the Bakery we had plenty of time to do it in.
At about the 35 km mark we decided to stop and sit down and change our route to now take in a Decathlon store as the boys wanted their bikes looked at. The store we found was around the corner from the railway station and although involved quite a lot of navigation once again we traveled through the Centre of a large city feeling quite safe as we were on quiet streets, cycle paths and dedicated bike lanes or footpaths, very seldom on a road with traffic that would cause us a problem.
Looks like we screwed up with our room, I would have sworn that we booked a triple as in three separate beds, however what we have is a double and a single so the thermarest will once again be used as our third bed option.
Last night after dinner we went for a walk around the old part of town to find the narrowest street in the world (this follows Ulm where the cathedral had the tallest spire in the world). The narrowest street is only 31 cm wide and most of us would have to walk through it sideways as we did and some would choose to take the long way around to the other end. That's a Pic of me coming out of the street.
Our person assigned to laundry duties is just back chuckling away and sharing his story with us. The hotel has a free laundry available for guest use, all you need to do is buy the laundry powder from the dispensing machine.
He popped the coins in and out popped the packet in the pic (which clearly isn't washing powder)!
Bugger, wrong machine.
Now those of you reading this who did the Kayak Club outdoor safety course with Ray Button many years ago will clearly remember the importance of having said packets of items in your outdoor first kit? So not wanting see something go to waste and as all up the weight is less than 6 grams, I have tucked it away in my biking first kit, for future use maybe. I kid you not 😉
