Day 44 - Bournemouth to Weymouth - ride total - 3,397 k, 20943 m
It was a straight line run down to the chain link Ferry at Sandbanks to cross over to the Studland side of Poole Harbour. Again while waiting for the Ferry we got chatting with some locals who were off for an overnight ride. As with yesterday there were quite a few cyclists out riding this Sunday morning even though it was a bit damp and things didn't clear up until after lunch.
Shortly aftter leaving the Ferry we were off the sealed road and heading through a considerable sized block of DOC land (or its UK equivalent). We saw more ponies and also some cattle along with a Conservation notice outlining how they are using the animals as a low impact, effective weed management and forest renewal process with less use of chemicals and mechanical weed eradication.
Just like the New Forest it was lovely riding, without the heat and wind of earlier days and today we had considerable Heather covered areas to cycle through.
The area of Bournmouth we rode out through was clearly the place to own property with some very large plots of land along with some beautiful homes on them. I have heard the Studlands across the harbour from Bournmouth is where the wealthy from London have one of their holiday places - unfortunately they will have to wait being seen me for another time.
Dorchester is a lovely small City where we stopped for unch and then only had about a 20 km run down to Weymouth and this time the wind had a day with favourable wind conditions.
Seven years on from my first ride here in the UK I'm seeing as many letter Post boxes and the amazing this is they still have "Postman Pat" come six days a week and check for letters! One would have to wonder many letters Pat clears from these boxes nowadays
