Travel Day 22 - CIrencester

A quiet morning spent at Steve and Sarah's where I spent a bit of time organising where I'm off to tomorrow - Wales.

In the afternoon Steve and I went to the Swindon Rail Museum which is a museum with about 10 steam engines housed inside what used to be the Great Western Railway Workshops - It was very good and if you're in this part of the world and you like things mechanical then it will well be worth a visit.

I serviced my bike and then found out it could do with the gears being tuned so that;s going to be my first job in the morning to pop in to the local bike shop.

We went out to a nice Indian restaurant for a meal.

Day 52 - Little Malvern to Hereford - Ride total 3,780 k, 24,250 m

After spending the last three days with Steve and Sarah they were kind enough to drive me and the bike across to Little Malvern where I began my ride to Hereford with a climb up onto the Malvern Hills and along the ridge to get a 360 degree view of the countryside all around - a huge expanse of rolling hills and plains stretched out below on both sides of the ridge (the pics do not do justice to the view in real time). Never say to me "you must come and stay" - unless you mean it, coz I do! In 2017 when I met Steve when we were both doing LeJog (Lands End to John O'Groats) and along with Peter became riding buddies along the way. Day 44 - Bournemouth to Weymouth - ride total - 3,397 k, 20943 m

It was a straight line run down to the chain link Ferry at Sandbanks to cross over to the Studland side of Poole Harbour. Again while waiting for the Ferry we got chatting with some locals who were off for an overnight ride. As with yesterday there were quite a few cyclists out riding this Sunday morning even though it was a bit damp and things didn't clear up until after lunch.  Shortly aftter leaving the Ferry we were off the sealed road and heading through a considerable sized block of DOC land (or its UK equivalent). We saw more ponies and also some cattle along with a Conservation notice outlining how they are using the animals as a low impact, effective weed management and forest renewal process with less use of chemicals and mechanical weed eradication. Travel Day 1

 An early start at 2:45 a.m. to head to the airport at 3:30 and I'm super fortunate to have Mike my neighbour take me to the airport in his van which is just ideal for a bike box. And yes, that is correct my neighbour took me to the airport! How lucky am I to have neighbour's like this. Arrived in Melbourne at 8:00 and have had a seven hour wait for our flight to Abu Dhabi. Peter met up with airside and we'll travel the next two legs of the journey through to Rome together. Note to self and others: take an old tea towel as cabin luggage. That way when you have a long wait in transit you've got something better than three chux cloths to dry yourself off after having a shower. A shave, a fresh set of undies and tee shirt and you feel fresh again. Then it's off to the duty free store to "freshen up" a little (I now smell like a cologne cocktail"... Why the tea towel?
